This sounds like an interesting event. Does the St. Clair County Democratic Party benefit from these donations? Which candidates will benefit from the money raises? Thanks.

That's a good question, Anne. I'll check with Henry Yanez and post his answer once I get it.

Hi Jackie,

Good questions. First the easy one, yes you'll be on a list. We didn't want to spend money on both printing fliers and tickets. We figured even if we sent tickets out we still had to record who paid and keep a list at the door. So those who paid just have to check in.

As far as money for candidates, that's something that will have to be discussed with the executive committee. Of course it also depends on how much money we raise. Of course our first concern as a district is the Congressional seat. We also need money to hold our meetings. To this point I and others have been taking money out of our own pockets for meetings, printings, snacks and such. With the generous contribution from the UAW and party members like yourself, we now have some operating capital but we are just keeping our nose above the waterline.

I hope that the 10th district at some point will have enough cash to disperse to individual candidates but as of right now we are trying to do other things that will help candidates such as organizing educational events such as the Justice Caucus Camp Millie, We now have a bulk mailing permit that candidates can use to save money and organizing walkers and phone callers for district wide candidates.

I hope people don't expect too much too soon. The 10th district has sat dormant for quite a while and it's going to take time to get to a level of a district like the 12th that has a sitting Congressman and a greater membership.

We also have to bring all the Counties together to share resources that will make us all stronger which will make for a better representation in Lansing and Washington. That's the purpose of this dinner, to kick off a District wide campaign.

I know that's all very grandiose but I've seen this system work before and I know we can make it work within the 10th.

Sorry for such a long answer. I wish I could say yes everyone is going to get a big lump of cash but until we see what's going to happen with next years campaign and what kind of money will be put into the district, I can't make any promises about monies at this time. Hopefully things will change soon.

If anyone has any further questions, please feel free to direct them to me and I'll be glad to answer them as best I can.

So nice to hear from you and I look forward to seeing you on the 11th. And bring friends!!!
